A man, thinking he had found a “hornet’s nest” in his attic, was struck with panic when he discovered what was really inside…

A man in Brittany believed he had discovered a dangerous hornet’s nest in his attic—but the real story behind it is even more shocking.
In the quiet region of Finistère, former sailor Denis Jaffré was facing a crisis. The invasive Asian hornet had wiped out half of his bee colonies—50 hives gone in just months. Instead of giving up, he turned panic into purpose.
Determined to protect his bees, Denis created a smart, eco-friendly trap designed to target only the hornets—without harming other insects. After many trials, his invention proved incredibly effective, even earning recognition at the famous Lépine competition in 2019.
By 2021, his idea became a business: Jabeprode. What started in his living room now reaches 18 countries across Europe, with growing demand worldwide.
His trap works by attracting hornets with scent, then capturing them using specially sized cones—protecting bees and preserving biodiversity at the same time.
Today, Denis is pushing even further—raising awareness, expanding production, and promoting eco-friendly solutions to fight invasive species.
