The flat I’d been renting was put up for sale, so I had no choice but to move out. Before leaving, I made sure everything was spotless—every corner cleaned, everything in its place. I wanted to leave on a good note.
The next day, my phone rang. It was my landlady.
My heart skipped a beat. I immediately thought something had gone wrong—that maybe I had missed something or broken something without realizing it.
But instead, she surprised me.
She thanked me warmly for how clean and well I had left the apartment. Her tone was sincere, almost touched. Then, out of nowhere, she asked a question that caught me completely off guard:
“How come you’re so wonderful and still alone?”
I didn’t even know how to respond.
Before I could say anything, she continued, almost excitedly, “I have a friend I’d love you to meet.”
I stood there, phone in hand, unsure whether to laugh or feel flattered. Just a moment ago, I was worried about losing my deposit—and suddenly, I was being set up on a date.
Life has a strange way of surprising you. One chapter was closing, and without warning, another possibility quietly opened.
