When my father passed away, I believed there would be no surprises in his will. I was his only child, and he had built a fortune worth several million dollars.
At the lawyer’s office, I sat quietly as the document was opened.
Then the lawyer said, “According to your father’s wishes, his estate and money will go to Brenna.”
At first, I smiled, thinking he had misread my name.
“My name is Mona,” I corrected him.
He looked at me seriously.
“There is no mistake. Brenna is also your father’s daughter.”
Before I could respond, the door opened and a woman about my age entered. She looked terrified and carried an old envelope.
